Why You Need to Replace Your Toothbrush When a Cold Sore Erupts
Posted on 1/25/2018 by Lemond Hunter
Cold sores normally happen when you have the Herpes Simplex Virus. When you do see a cold sore, it is time to replace your toothbrush. Why is it so important for you to do this? It is because the herpes virus can stay in your toothbrush for many days after you see a cold sore pop up on your face.
In order to get rid of this virus completely, you will need to throw away the old toothbrush and replace it with a new one. Here are a few other ways to prevent more cold sores and to get rid of them altogether.
Leave it Alone
If you find a cold sore on your mouth and it really does not hurt or bother you at all, leave it alone. This is one way to get rid of it and keep it from spreading to other parts of your body. However, it is very rare to have a cold sore not bother you that much.
Although it still might bother you, you should still not touch it at all, ever. Keep from scratching or picking at it. If you do, make sure to wash your hands right away before touching any other part of your body so as not to spread it.
Keep Your Toothbrush Out of the Bathroom
Although it is the place where most everyone stores their toothbrush, you really should not keep it in the bathroom. This is the worst place for a toothbrush because it is a really moist environment.
A moist environment is a breeding ground for the herpes simplex virus and this can go on to your toothbrush and live. Then, once you brush your teeth, you will definitely get more cold sores. So, the best thing to do is, keep your toothbrush out of your bathroom and in a drier environment instead.
