Sedation dentistry offers many options to our patients who need to undergo a dental procedure. We use different methods depending on the paient, the amount of dental work they have previously experienced, and the condition being treated. Once we determine you need to have a procedure that requires anesthesia, we will review your options in detail and answer any questions you may have. We can also use this sedation method to help you relax if you have dental phobia. Why is Conscious Sedation Dentistry Good? There are several reasons why conscious sedation is good for a patient. Putting you to sleep always involves risks, no matter the precautions. Using conscious sedation eliminates that concern and allows the patient to participate in the procedure if needed.Staying awake also eliminates the need for a driver to take you back and forth to our office. You will be able to drive yourself safely following the procedure. Aside from the discomfort of not feeling your lips and teeth for a few hours, the effects of a local anesthetic wear off rather quickly, and you can move on with your regular eating habits very soon. Conscious sedation is also cheaper than putting you to sleep because we don't need to monitor your blood pressure and vital signs while you are under the medicine's effects. Perhaps one of the most significant benefits of using conscious sedation is that you feel comfortable and relaxed, so we can proceed with the required treatment. Anytime a patient is anxious, especially very young patients, it will make our job harder, and we may not be able to complete a procedure. Conscious sedation dentistry is safe, and we use it in our office many times in a day to treat our patients who need anything from fillings to a root canal. |
