The Benefits of Dental Sealants?

Posted on 12/10/2021 by Lemond Hunter
The Benefits of Dental Sealants? One of the most common preventive dental procedures we can do is apply dental sealants to molars. We advise both children and adults to get dental sealants. Specifically, we strongly encourage parents of children and teenagers who are at a higher risk of tooth decay to have sealants applied to their adult molar teeth. These teeth are often neglected during a youngster's oral hygiene routine and can easily harbor acids and bacteria, which are the gateway to tooth decay.

Dental Sealants Have Many Benefits

Dental sealants have numerous benefits. These thin plastic coatings create a barrier between harmful acids and the tooth. Many patients are saved from cavities as a result of dental sealants. Simply put, they are a protective shield. If your tooth has deep pits, where food debris and bacteria can multiply, it is even more important that you consider getting dental sealants.

Dental sealants are also beneficial because they do not create any adverse reaction in the dental chair or after the application. The patient does not incur any discomfort during the application of dental sealants. We do not have to numb the patient to apply dental sealants. In addition, after this quick and painless procedure, there is no post-care needed.

Let's Talk About Dental Sealants at Your Next Dental Exam

Perhaps you do not know if you had dental sealants as a child. At your next routine dental cleaning and exam, we would be happy to look and see if you still have them. Chances are, they have been worn away or may be chipped. It is very easy to add more sealant, as necessary, to restore your barrier. We want to help you be proactive against tooth decay, and having dental sealants is one of the best ways to combat cavities.
