CEREC Dental Crowns Portland, OR
If you have damaged a tooth or have more decay that can be treated with a filling, you may have been recommended a dental crown. This treatment is an effective way of protecting and preserving the damaged tooth while also avoiding an extraction. The problem with crowns, though, is that they can take weeks before you get your actual restoration. At Hunter Dental Care, we can provide you with a gorgeous ceramic crown in just one appointment thanks to CEREC.
What Does CEREC Mean?
CEREC is an acronym that stands for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic. It is a technology that enables us to make ceramic crowns, as well as other ceramic restorations, right in our office so that you can receive your restoration in a single appointment.
How Does CEREC Work?
The traditional method for creating crowns and other restorations involves the use of an impression putty. Not only is putty messy, but it can also be uncomfortable and cause gagging, which can then cause apprehension and anxiety. Putty can also be inaccurate, resulting in the need for additional impressions. With CEREC, we take your impressions digitally, eliminating the need for impression putty. We wave a handheld wand in your mouth, which captures the image. The impression is then shown in 3D on a computer monitor.
After we have your impression, we then digitally design your ceramic crown. Once complete, your crown is then brought to life. This is done with the use of a milling unit that is located right in our in-house lab. We place a block of ceramic into the machine, and the crown is then cut out of it. When it is finished, we can check it to make sure it fits before bonding it onto your tooth.
What Benefits Does CEREC Offer?
The biggest benefit to CEREC is that you get your ceramic crown in just one appointment. This not only enables you to avoid the need for additional appointments; you also avoid the need for a temporary restoration. By avoiding a temporary restoration, the risks associated with its use are eliminated.
Digital impressions are much more accurate than traditional ones. With greater accuracy, we can create more accurate restorations, reducing the likelihood that you will need adjustments. Moreover, the chances that you will need additional impressions are also reduced.
CEREC crowns are also made using ceramic. This material is free of any metals. It also allows us to create completely realistic looking crowns. They look so real that no one will ever be able to tell that they are there.
Can CEREC Make Other Restorations?
CEREC technology is often associated with dental crowns. While crowns are one of the most common restorations made using this technology, it is not the only one. CEREC can also be used to make other ceramic restorations including inlays and onlays as well as dental bridges. All of ceramic restorations made with a CEREC blend in beautifully with your real teeth, providing you with a gorgeous restoration to your smile as well as your oral health.
CEREC can provide you with a perfectly natural crown, bridge, inlay, or onlay in just one appointment, saving you time and reducing the risk of complications. For more information, call Hunter Dental Care at (503) 622-9730 today.
