Non Emergency Dental Problems You Should Be Aware Of
Posted on 5/23/2022 by Lemond Hunter
Dental problems are usually categorized as 'emergency' or 'non-emergency.' Dental emergencies are severe pain, uncontrolled bleeding, or an avulsed tooth. Non-emergency dental problems are usually less urgent and can be planned for an appointment during regular hours. Here are some of the common non-emergency problems.
Small Crack in Tooth
One of the common non-emergency issues is a small crack in a tooth. You can go to your dentist during business hours, but one should avoid going to the dentist. A small crack develops in your tooth. It may not cause any pain or discomfort for some time. But over time, the crack can eventually lead to more serious issues like tooth decay or even tooth loss if left untreated. Thankfully, a cracked tooth can typically be quickly and easily treated by your dentist, who will either fill the damaged area with a unique dental composite material.
Sensitivity or Minor Pain
If you notice your teeth become more sensitive to hot or cold drinks or foods, this is another common non-emergency dental problem. In most cases, tooth sensitivity results from exposed dentin, which is the bony tissue underneath the enamel that protects your teeth. Dentin can become exposed due to gum recession, tooth decay, or wearing down of the enamel. Treatment for this issue typically involves using special fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash or getting a dental bonding procedure to cover the exposed dentin.
Lost Dental Crown or Filling
If you notice that a dental filling has fallen out or a crown is missing, it can result in tooth sensitivity and pain. Often, this issue can be fixed by visiting your dentist during regular business hours, who will try to re-cement the crown or fix the filling. Furthermore, if the tooth is severely decayed, your dentist may need to perform a root canal procedure. If you are unsure whether or not your issue is an emergency, please get in touch with our dental clinic, and we will be happy to advise you.
